Album Cover Designs

Our group designed these two album covers, The first one is very indie and focuses on the main band member. It is very easy to see the album name and artist, this is good because it allows it to be easily identified and can draw the audiences attention. The simple image is very effective as it can attract the target audience as well as attracting people who may not be interested in the genre of the band.

The second one uses autumn colours to match the scenery, this allows it to focus on the only band member in shot and makes the title of the band stand out as it is in a brighter colour.

Overall we decided that we prefer the first one because it attracts the target audience more and is more appropriate for the genre of music. It is also simple which allows the name and band member to stand out more which is what we were looking for.

Alterations to our music video

Throughout the time it has taken us to produce this music video, we have had to make a lot of changes along the way. A lot of them have benefited us in positive ways and we feel that they have improved our music video, album/dvd pack.

First of all we had a few issues with filming as we originally wanted to film in a barn and use hay stacks to add a quirkiness to our video but we soon fond out that there were few barns in the area to be able to use and those that we could use weren't suitable for what we needed it for. Due to this we had to change our storyboard and rethink of some ideas. We eventually decided that we would have the main protagonist in a bed waking up but due to illness and lack of film we were unable to film that part as well.
After a lot of thought and going back to the drawing board we came up with the idea of having Connor, the protagonist and lead singer to show his side of the story and narrate the lyrics and explain them in an interesting way. This idea flowed very well with the footage we had and we soon had most of our music video filmed. We as a group decided that The Night Riots, Remedy could be placed in the genre of performance as well as narrative and we soon developed lots of ideas using the green screen room.
Using the green screen was where most of our problems became evident when we had to film three separate times due to the footage not working on the computer and the fact we over looked that the drum kit we were using was blue and that this would be taken out when we edited it on Final Cut Express. However this meant that we were able to be more creative with our music video and we went back to the drawing board again to come up with some ideas to replace the slots where most of our performance would go. This worked out perfectly because they day we decided to film our location was covered in fog and mist and we all agreed that this effect worked really well with the style of music video we were aiming for. The fog also looked amazing when we edited it on the macs which worked out really well in our favor.

Due to illness of all of our team members we were unable to film some of the ideas we had put down on our storyboard which meant that our storyboard doesn't look a lot like the final piece of our music video but we are all very proud at how it has turned out and we all feel like it has benefited us by allowing us to have a quirkier video then we were originally expected it to be.

In depth analysis of three music videos in our genre

Our song (Night Riots- Remedy) is categorised under Indie/Rock genre. However, our song isn't very well known therefore, I will be listing three other popular Indie/Rock songs from three different famous Indie/Rock bands.

1 ) Kings Of Leon - Sex On Fire

Kings Of Leon are well-known rock band which have produced some very successful songs such as 'Sex On Fire' and 'Use Somebody'. This song illustrates the performance element which relates to our song/music video. In this music video, the performance factor is displayed by the band being together during the majority of the video. There is no stage however, the band are seen playing their instruments together in a isolated scene. The band are positioned in front of a dark background whilst having some light reflected upon them, which reflects upon the performance element in the music video.

2) Foo Fighters - The Pretender

Foo Fighters are another famous rock band that have produced some well-known, popular rock songs such as 'The Pretender' and 'All My Life'. This song also portrays the performance element that is key for our music video. During the majority of this video, the same background, the same positioning of the band members and the same setting is used. The whole video is based around performance and focuses on the strength of the band. The band is shown in front of a red background in a warehouse which has bright floors and dark walls.

3) 30 Seconds To Mars - The Kill

30 Seconds To Mars are another significant rock band that relate to our music video genre. They have produced some lucrative, prosperous songs such as 'The Kill' and 'From Yesterday'. This song in particular focuses on the narrative element which is the other key factor that relates to our music video genre. During the video, the band are seen entering a lost, forgotten hotel, in which the band members see clones of themselves which is shown in the image above. During the video some of the band members die and therefore, reflects upon the songs title 'The Kill'. The majority of this video is based around the narrative element.

Lip Syncing Practice

We filmed our fist attempt of lip syncing in the green screen room because we felt like this was the best place to perform. It is quiet in there and we are able to add our own background to it once we edit the clip successfully.

We filmed our sequence a few times so that Connor could get a feel of what it is like lip syncing and he could practice getting the words in time with the song. It took a few attempts to get the feel of it and to film it successfully because Connor needed to learn the lyrics better and we wanted to see where the best place/position would be to have him on camera.

There was an issue with trying to get the music downloaded from one device to another. We eventually found their website to which if you sign up you get a free download of their song which made the process of adding the music a whole lot easier for everyone in the group.

Costume, make-up and hair planning

One Direction - the look we don't want
For our costume, make-up and hair planning, i decided to take the role of creating the outfits for the Actors/Artists. We as a group decided to stay away for the One Direction, typical boy band look and wanted to be more creative by choosing an outfit which will suit the music video and in some way the Indie look.

We looked at many different indie/rock bands to see if we could compare them to our artist. Some of the actors used in the music videos can have a unique look about them, every single band have their own different look. Some bands like to look smart, while others feel comfortable in baggy tops and skinny jeans this is the usual look you get from a Indie/Rock group.

Our artist will be wearing a shirt with a loose tie and jeans, this is due to him sleeping in a barn with some alcohol this will show us that he is still in last nights clothes. The loose tie will show that he was dressed smart but due to sleeping on a haystack this will show he isn't smart dressed from the night before. In the morning when he wakes up his make-up will show that he is tired from not sleeping that much and he has a very bad hangover from drinking. You will see this in the scene as bottles will be floating around. From this the make-up wont be noticeable at all and this will allow him still to look very natural. His hair will be very messy, he will have the 'bed hair look'.

In the music video there will be a female involved too she will be wearing indie clothing, she will be wearing skinny jeans with a t-shirt with a coat. Her hair will be in a middle parting - with a scruffy curls look. This may change when filming, as we aren't too sure about the female look.

Throughout the filming things may change, depending on how the look is during the music video.
